World of Glorantha Art Competition
Delighted by the art competition for the Imperial Lunar Handbook,
Issaries asks what might the Gloranthan Tribe do with a wider canvas. To answer that question, we offer a new
competition for illustrations in The World of Glorantha.
We want to see distinctive but everyday artifacts and symbols of the cultures and peoples of Glorantha, not vignettes
or great tableaux. Send in relatively small black line drawings of things like statues and seals, pots and plows, knives
and necklaces, swords and scroll-tubes, coins and combs, and all the other impedimenta of daily life. Ultimately, we are
looking for well-drawn pictures that not only look good but that also illustrate something about the culture or religion
of some part of Glorantha. (See the product page for an idea of the areas of Glorantha
that the book will cover.)
Read the below rules carefully, as submissions that do not conform will automatically be disqualified. Deadline for entry
is March 31, 2004, and as before all entries become the property of Issaries, Inc. One or more winning entries will be
included in The World of Glorantha; each winning artist will receive credit and a contributor copy of the book.
We will announce the winner in a GTA Dispatch and on the web site. Illustrations may also be used on the Issaries website,
or in future books (with due credit and contributor copies).
The Rules
- Submissions must be black-line or with minimal use of shading and grayscale. They must be proportioned so that
they can reasonably fill an area approximately 1-3 inches square. This does not mean that they must be square, it is
just to give you an idea of the rough area they will probably fill in the book.
- Do NOT submit any single graphic more than 100k in size (whether zipped or unzipped). Instead, send us a JPEG file,
optimized to be no more than 100k in size. If your illustration is selected and we want a high-resolution TIF file, we
will ask you for it!
- Email your illustrations (NB: remove the last part
of the email address, it is a spam prevention device) by the deadline indicated below. Entries posted on any forum,
discussion list, or newsgroup, or sent to any other email address, will not be considered.
- Each entry must be submitted as a file attachment to a separate email. You should use your first name and surname
as the attachment name, with a number if you submit more than one drawing (e.g. GregStafford1.jpg). In the main body
of each email, include your name, physical mailing address, and a short description of the illustration.
- Issaries, Inc. reserves the right to use an illustration to illustrate another place or object than the one
described by the artist.
- Entries over the 100k size limit, or which do not otherwise follow the contest rules, may be disqualified.
- Entries must be received by midnight PST, March 31, 2004. Entries received after this deadline are not eligible
for the contest. To ensure entries are not misdirected, put GLORANTHA ART CONTEST in the subject line.
- All qualified submissions become the property of Issaries, Inc. Submission of an illustration constitutes permission
from the artist for Issaries, Inc., to use the entry now or at any time in the future, and releases the work as if
the author had submitted an Author's Release Form. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide proper credit
to sources and to other individuals who may have contributed to the work. Issaries, Inc., reserves the right to
require that the artist complete and return an Author's Release Form before awarding any prize. Entries not selected
for inclusion in The World of Glorantha may, at Issaries' option, be posted on the Issaries, Inc. web
site or used in a future product, without additional compensation (beyond credit and a contributor copy).
Credit for inclusion in The World of Glorantha, or any other book, and a contributor's copy of that book,
constitute full compensation for the winning entry or entries. No other payment will be provided.
The judges' ruling is final.
