Presumably, Orlanth taking Ernalda away is a case of “You are my wife, follow me to the Underworld”. It would have caused the Lunars a problem, but would have caused their allies, the Yelmalians, a bigger problem, as Yelmalio is married to Ernalda. I bet the Yelmalians were not very happy with the Lunars after they killed Orlanth/Ernalda.December 7, 2014 at 4:00 pm #11842

If you want to speak to a ghost and could not communicate while the person was alive, then why should you suddenly be able to communicate with the person just because he has died? So, if your shaman knows Praxian and Tradetalk and the dead troll could only speak Darktongue, why should you be able to speak with it?
Having said that, a shaman is expert at controlling all spirits, so should be able to interact with any spirit, no matter its origin. So, I like the idea of a Spiritspeech, which is rune-derived. What it would allow the shaman to do would be to make simple commands – attack that person, jump into this binding enchantment, go away and never bother me again. It would probably not allow communication beyond this, but might allow some sense of conveying of raw concepts – fear, anger, love or danger.
But, if you are happier that any shaman can deal with any spirit, then by all means use Spiritspeech as a tool for doing so. I would guess that was its original use.November 8, 2014 at 5:34 pm #11463
In my Glorantha, Zorak Zoran plucked Yelmalio’s fiery heart out and that members of the Amanstan subcult fire powers.
The Fire Rune through Amanstan is difficult to use and master, for trolls, so trolls spend twice the points to gain and increase their Fire Rune.
I am not keen on Zorak Zoran having a Spirit Society, to be honest, as I do not see them as being shamanic – leave all the spirit stuff to Kyger Litor.
Zorak Zoran should have a Take Fire feat, although Fire Eater would work just as well. I do not think that Amanstan would have any feats, as it did not do anything in GodTime, except be a slave.
I like the HQ1 idea of affinities, rather than HQ2’s feats, so I would give members of the Amanstan subcult a Fire Affinity of Fire Maul, Take Fire, Burn Elf, Frighten Darkness.
Don’t forget that Zorak Zoran stole Fire from Yelmalio, but it burned him, as Aether’s fire burned him before. He is a thief, not a conqueror. Argan Argar, on the other hand, conquered and enslaved Lodril, so his worshippers should be able to use the Fire rune without any penalties (no double cost, for example). Cragspider also has fire and grants access to the Fire rune to her worshippers, again at no extra cost.
So, Zroak Zoran is, by no means, the only troll deity with mastery over fire.October 12, 2014 at 8:38 pm #11272
I’d make them immune to anything but Fire and Magic.
However, cunning heroes should be able to use their abilities to defeat, trap or avoid gorp in clever ways.October 8, 2014 at 11:54 pm #11220
The Wayback Engine might have some of the articles at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.glorantha.com/docs/*
This has been raised before. It seems that this was caused by the migration of the website and a whole load of articles were not carried over.
My guess is that they are gone for good, but I hope I am proven wrong.October 8, 2014 at 11:47 pm #11219
Sun County – RQ3 and RQ6
Balazar – RQ2, RQ3 (maybe) and RQ6
Borderlands – RQ2, RQ3 (maybe) and RQ6
Personally, I would prefer new areas described for RQ6, rather than the same old areas rehashed.
I know the arguments that these are popular areas, that they haven’t been done for RQ6, that newer players won’t have the old information, that anything old would need converting to RQ6, but I am not convinced.
I would love to see Pent get a good writeup, or the Lunars, or the Holy Country, for example.October 4, 2014 at 9:19 pm #11108
With HeroQuest, I tend to try and make things as flexible as possible. So, I don;t pin feats down to a rigid interpretation of what it means.
As to how you can use Discern Cosmic Law in other ways …
Break through a mass of legal arguments to pick out the original meaning or interpretation of the law.

Wow, it has reached its target goal for funding within the first day! Makes you wonder how many stretch goals it will have now!
Are you really surprised?
Any guesses for the final figure backed? I would guess around $100k.September 6, 2014 at 10:30 pm #10742
Simon: First I’ve heard of a demon destroying the Praxians trying to enter Dragon Pass. More research!
King of Sartar, page 152, “In Prax, Argrath White Bull raised a huge army and marched against the city of Pavis. The imperial soldiers refused to surrender, and the walls were broken by ancient magic. They were all put to the sword, and then the howling, blood-crazed army marched against Sartar. Tatius sent a demon which had two arms, and an extra one, against them. The nomads were slaughtered, but Argrath’s body was not among those left to the hyenas.”
A PDF version would have made it easier to find, though. I wonder when the new version of King of Sartar is coming out?
In my non-canonical Balazar/Elder Wilds units, O gave each pentian tribe roughly the same as a typical Praxian tribe, but with one shaman and one magician. They are a mixture of things from the Grazelanders and Praxians. I would say that each Pentian Nation would be roughly the equivalent of a Praxian Nation.September 6, 2014 at 1:25 pm #10735

Thank you Jeff. I’m working on an expanded version of the Dragon Pass boardgame that covers the entire Lunar Empire from the Thunder Delta to the City of Wonders. I’d posted about it on the Glorantha Google+ site and Roko has done great work on the map while Lev has had some good insights from his game design experience, but I’m pretty much doing the brunt of the work. I was hoping to be able to give all the units involved their canonical names, much like there are in Dragon Pass. But in the meantime I can just go without. Getting the correct number of regiments, however, is the important part. Obviously, the Pentans would vary, but I’m trying to find a starting point.September 6, 2014 at 1:11 pm #10732
I have Dragon Pass for the Sartar Free Army, but is there more? Is Dragon Pass complete for the Exiles and the Praxian Horde (misnomered the barbarian horde instead of the Nomad Horde in the game)?
Actually, the Barbarian Horde is not the Praxian Nomads, but the Pol Joni. Presumably this links in with the Praxian army being destroyed by a demon when they tried to enter Dragon Pass.September 5, 2014 at 12:44 am #10706
