I bought Dragon Pass (unpunched!) last year, and have played a couple of games since. I think it is the Avalon Hill version. The map is gorgeus, but I find it really frustrating to try to wrap my head around the combat rules.
I do intend to learn, bit by bit.
I’ve also toyed with the idea of devising a Dragon Pass / Warrior Knights / Cosmic Encounter hybrid, but haven’t thought it very far yet.September 5, 2013 at 9:22 am #5593
Started a River of Cradles / Pavis campaign a couple of weeks ago with the old RQ2 or so rules (Finnish edition, I am not exactly sure on the version). Currently two characters — An agimori hunter and a duck fisherman. An interesting combination, though I fear the duck has an inferiority complex in combat. I’d underplay combat a bit, but it simultaneously seems like the players’ favourite thing.
I’ve been pretty liberal with skill advancement, though, so I hope things will settle soon.August 25, 2013 at 11:52 am #5485
If you ask me, the lack of information about duck culture is one of their strong points.
Ducks are very quirky, uncentralized, and even veiled in mystery. On the other hand they pose little political or military power, yet tend to thrive in most places (wet, ugly places anyway).
Because of this I have felt I could take considerable liberties with local ducks, adapting them to different roles. They are almost omnipresent, it sometimes feels, yet they rarely conflict with anything.
Most of my actual information is old, hailing from Elder Races (which had quite little on them), and Zola Fel Valley (which had surprisingly much).
