Griffin Mountain was first published in 1982, and consisted of a 202-page book and a double-sided map; the authors were Rudy Kraft, Paul Jaquays, and Greg Stafford. Unlike most scenario packs for role-playing games, it did not include a series of adventures. Instead, it presented a setting, complete with maps, history, personalities, descriptions of important locations, and numerous adventure ideas. It went out of print a couple of years later.
In 1986, Avalon Hill released Griffin Island, a substantially-reworked version of Griffin Mountain. Although it contained some new material, the scenario pack was removed from the world of Glorantha to the dismay of many readers.
