Hero Bands Wanted!
Issaries, Inc., is proud to present its second Hero Wars contest.
In addition to the many other products we are working on, we have begun to prepare
the 2nd edition of the Hero Wars rules. Hero bands are much more
integral to the new edition, and we will be presenting several in the new rulesbook.
And we want you, the Glorantha Community, to contribute!
Read the revised Gagarth's Wolves hero band
by Mark Galeotti and the rules on Guardian Beings
(a type of Otherworld entity), then write a 1000-word hero band following the same
format (use the Hero Band Format document as a
template). Please note that the hero band format has changed since the 1st edition
rules; any submissions that do not follow the new format will not be considered.
If you want to contribute, but don't have any ideas, you can look through the
Sample Hero Bands for ideas. These notes
represent all of the work that has been done by Issaries, Inc. on these bands, and you
are free to develop one and submit it for this contest. Information provided in this
file should not be changed, but you are free to develop and add to it as you wish.
Deadline for submission of entries is September 9, 2001. The winning entry will be
included in the second edition of Hero Wars (or perhaps Hero's
Book), and the author will recieve credit and a free copy of the book when it
comes out. We will announce the winner in the next quarterly GTA newsletter and on the
web site (follow this link if you are interested in becoming a GTA
member or observer).
The Rules:
- You must follow the format used in the final version of
Gagarth's Wolves. (Please note that the
previously posted version has been revised, and should not be used as a
reference.)
- The hero band must not require that a specific deity, saint, spirit, or any
other entity be worshipped. The organization can encourage or prefer it, but
cannot require it. The write-up should not include a Magical Keyword of
any type. (This is one of the most important differences between 1st and 2nd
edition rules.)
- Post your entry to
us.
Entries posted on any forum, discussion list, or newsgroup, or sent to any other
email address, will not be considered.
- Entries may be sent in the body of the message or as a Microsoft Word file.
Entries submitted as a file attachment should use the
Hero Band Format document as a template, and
should not include any additional formatting. All entries should be spelling-
and grammar-checked using U.S. English. Entries with misspelled words and
grammatical errors are unlikely to be selected as contest winners.
- Entries over the 1000 word limit, or which do not follow the contest rules,
will be disqualified. Note that the sample is actually 1200 words, reflecting
its editing by the author to Issaries, Inc.'s specifications.
- Entries must arrive at Issaries by Sunday, September 9, 2001, 5:00 pm (PDT).
Entries received after this time are not eligible for the contest. To ensure
entries are not misdirected, entries should contain HERO BAND CONTEST in the
subject line.
- Issaries, Inc., reserves the right to make changes to the winning entry as
it deems necessary for publication.
- All submissions become the property of Issaries, Inc. Entry in the contest
constitutes permission from the author to Issaries, Inc., to use the entry (now
or at any time in the future), and releases the work as if the author had
submitted an Author's Release Form. It is the responsibility of the author to
provide proper credit to sources and to other individuals who may have
contributed to the work. Issaries, Inc., reserves the right to require that the
author complete and return an Author's Release Form before awarding the prize.
Entries not selected for inclusion in Hero Wars may, at Issaries'
option, be posted as a fan contribtution on the
web site or used in a future product.
- Issaries, Inc., reserves the right to select more than one winning entry for
separate inclusion in the book. All winners will receive the same prize. Credit
for inclusion in Hero Wars or any other book, and a contributor's
copy of that book, constitute full compensation for the entry. No other payment
will be provided.
- The judge's ruling is final.
Thanks and good writing,
Stephen Martin
