Outline
During the darkness Vinga was a protector of the clans against many of the foes of the Heortling. This
ritual invokes Vinga to aid the defenders of the clan on there own Tula. It also gives more of the women
of the tribe courage to take up arms in defense of the clan as they follow her example.
Introduction
This quest is intended to introduce folk to Heroquesting. It is actually a Sacred Time ritual to aid the
clan in defending itself over the coming year if successful. Members of the clan can gain benefits from
this quest so total support from some of the clan should be available.
Quest Requirements
This quest needs a Vingan to lead it but the rest of the participants are just representatives of the
other clan defenders and helpers. Ideally the other members should reflect the composition of the clan
ring but this is not essential to its success. The leader of the quest should have a best skill in the
range of 10W1 to 15W1. The rest should have a best skill in the range of 5W to 10W.
Myth
Vinga found a clan where most of the warriors had gone of on raids and left the people of the clan, now
mainly women, almost defenceless. Their old enemies had threatened the clan earlier so they were afraid
and feared for their children. Vinga spoke to the women of the clan telling them that they were not
defenseless and set them to prepare traps for the raiders. The thieves came before the traps were ready,
raiding an outer part of the Tula. Vinga called for support but the men said they would not be lead by a
woman. So Vinga and a few women rushed to protect the herdsmen and drove the thieves away. The men were
ashamed by the tale of their deeds and said they would follow her for now. Then darkmen attacked the Tula.
Again Vinga drove the attackers off, saving one of the women from death at the hands of the warriors. Then
enemies from above attacked the Tula but Vinga rallied the clan in the face of their missiles and the
attackers could not gain entry. When the old enemies came the traps were ready and the Tula guarded by the
few remaining warriors of the tribe and few of bravest of the women folk including the clan's healer. Some
of old enemies fell into the traps, others fell under the Clan's hurled javelins the rest fell onto the
defenders with a mad howl of rage. Some of the clan warriors were forced back but Vinga stood her ground
and rallied them. Seeing this the women of the clan took courage, came to her aid and helped drive off the
old enemy.

Stations
Enter the god's plane
It is Sacred Time so it counts as a high holy day. (Cross over to the Gods Plane 10W3, Mythology of
Vinga, Mythology of the Thunderbrothers -10)
Save the Woman
Then darkmen attacked the Tula. Again Vinga drove the attackers off, saving one of the women from
death at the hands of the warriors.
The attack by the trolls can happen anytime in the first half of the quest. Stop the attack by the Trolls
(Combat 10W) and save the pregnant female troll from your own warriors (Leadership /intimidation / combat).
The Female troll goes into labour shortly after the battle starts, leaving her vulnerable. This is part
of a quest for the trolls as well and they expect to lose this fight but gain a healthy birth of a girl
troll so they don't fight as hard as they could. The trollkin they have along with them are considered
very expendable but are strongly motivated to attack.
Raise Clan Moral
Vinga found a clan where most of the warriors had gone of on raids and left the people of the clan,
now mainly women, almost defenseless. Their old enemies had threatened the clan earlier so they were
afraid and feared for their children. Vinga spoke to the women of the clan telling them that they were
not defenceless and set them to prepare traps for the raiders.
The Quest Leader makes a Speech to the women of the clan to raise their sprits (raise moral 20). Other
female questers may also make a bravery role (Warriors Bravery 5w/ Others Bravery 17). Then send them
to set traps and prepare the defences (leadership 20).
Drive off Thieves
The thieves came before the traps were ready, raiding an outer part of the Tula. Vinga called for
support but the men said they would not be lead by a woman. So Vinga and a few women rushed to protect
the herdsmen and drove the thieves away. The men were ashamed by the tale of their deeds and said they
would follow her for now.
Enlist the male warriors aid in the coming fight. (Leadership 10W), If any of the men directly help
aginst the thieves then this station is an automatic failure. Get there in time, (Move Fast 5W) followed
by drive off thieves (Combat or intimidation 5W). Gain acceptance by the warriors (boasting 20).
Resist Invasion from Above
The Tula was then attacked from above but Vinga rallied the clan in the face of their missiles and
the attackers could not gain entry.
Instead of the foe expected for this stage and the expected missile battle, the Lunars step in and try
to subvert the quest to their own ends. The Lunars try to bring some of their ways of looking at things
to the Heortlings.
Any of the questers with a weather sense feels uneasy. Then the clouds glow red from within. The Lunars
arrive in a moonboat and hover above the Tula while the priests on board preach and use their magic to
subvert the questers below. (Strong will, initiate or devote of [-5], 10W3) The moonboat has a resistance
of 10W2 to physical or magical attacks. Only flying characters can directly attack the priest. Though
any such attacks are considered unrelated actions, resisting the mind attack is the main battle. If all
the questers fail [any level] then this stage is automatically a complete failure as the Lunar beliefs
gain a toehold in the clan.
Defend against Clan Enemy
When the old enemies came the traps were ready and the Tula guarded by the few remaining warriors of
the tribe and few of bravest of the women folk including the clan's healer. Some of old enemies fell
into the traps, others fell under the Clan's hurled javelins the rest fell onto the defender with a mad
howl of rage. Some of the clan warriors were forced back but Vinga stood her ground and rallied them.
Seeing this the women of the clan took courage and came to her aid and helped drive off the old enemy.
Full attack by the old enemy. This battle follows the usual stages of a Heortling battle. Contest of
Champions (Close Combat 7W2), Clash of Warriors: - Main hero must not retreat (Leadership / rally
warriors 15) Rest of the Questers (Close Combat 7W1), Fryd's Battle, Main Hero (Inspire women 17) if
successful the women of the clan take courage and join the fight as follower's of the questers, Rest
of questers, Drive off enemies.
Exit the gods Plane
It is sacred time so it counts as a high holy day (Cross over from the Gods Plane 10W3, Mythology of Vinga,
Mythology of the Thunderbrothers -10).

Individual benefits
In the "Save the Woman " Station either the saviour of the Dark Lady or someone who aids in giving her a
safe birth gains a gift of either a minor magical item or a few Trolkin followers [who will be loyal as
long as they are fed regularly it beats been eaten which would be there fate otherwise].
Any Woman quester apart from the main celebrant who in the "Raise the clan moral" station has a minor or
better success on there moral roll gains bravery permanently at a level shown in the table above.
Anyone who individually fails in the "Resist Invasion from Above" station gains a flaw of "Acceptance of
Strangers" at a level of 13/15/18/1W. Those who succeed at any level gain +1 to there Initiate or devoted
to relationship or to Strong Will.
Overall failure in the "Drive off Thieves" station results in a loss of wealth of all the questers equal
the edge lost at this station -1/-2 /-3.
At the end of the Quest the Main Quester gains Hp equal to the carryover for the victory level reached.
This must be used to increase an ability used in the quest as much as possible. Any remainder can be used
as desired by the player. In the case of a tie the player neither gain nor lose HP except for individual
bonuses.
If the main quester fails she suffers reduced relationship from their supporters in a similar fashion. So
one group of supporters takes a big loss relationship, any remaining negative points reduce the relationship
of other supporting groups or failing that the clan as a whole.
The other questers gain both the community benefits and penalties at one level higher than the community
supporters. Any Bravery/Fear of Battle gained this way is permanent.
