I’ve seen that the old Glorantha mailing list is still archived. Nice. I have it on an old PC I used a while ago. But as it is accessible on line, it is nice. But I’d like to download them in order to read and search them locally (without having to be connected). Alas the http://www.kondalski.org/brian/Glorantha/ is not active anymore. Does anyone has another way to have downloaded?August 27, 2013 at 1:34 pm #5489
One of the plans is to get them here on this site, and make them fully searchable of course. We’ll tidy them up removing any posts that weren’t actually related to the digest. In the meantime, this should help: http://glorantha.temppeli.org/digest/August 27, 2013 at 1:44 pm #5490
Whouaw, nice. Good idea. Do you plan to make them downloadable too?
Thanks for the linkAugust 28, 2013 at 8:40 am #5495
We haven’t got that far yet…August 30, 2013 at 3:33 pm #5501
I do have all of the WoG as mbox, and can let you have it, if you know what to do with this format. Or I could create something like http://glorantha.temppeli.org/digest/ (up-to-date of course) in no time.
I don’t want to turn a knife in this old wound, but this is of course one of all the advantages of a mailing list over a forum. I think I dimly remember they were thinking to put this up in parallel… So:
where is the mailing list that duplicates this forum?! (Which differs GREATLY from subscribing to a topic or having an RSS feed!!)August 30, 2013 at 3:52 pm #5502
Integrating a forum and a mailing list, in HeroQuest terms, is Nearly Impossible. I looked at attempting it several times and gave up each time. Either:
- forum developers and mailing list developers actively avoid talking to each other (whether due to hatred or complete lack of interest, I’m not sure); or
- Yahoo holds a patent that no-one else dares challenge.
Of course, another possibility is that I am incompetent 😉August 30, 2013 at 7:18 pm #5504
I was not talking about services like yahoo or google, and they hold no patent you could infringe. I had hoped – or even assumed – you would have the expertise to do this yourself. I could do this, given a decent server. Who serves your forum? Let’s talk tech.September 2, 2013 at 8:30 am #5507
This is Mingle forum, a wordpress plugin, run through buddy press. If you’d like to extend the mingle plugin to encompass mailing list integration or build a separate plugin that would be great. The author is here http://cartpauj.icomnow.com. We’re on a wordpress host, so only the wordpress environment is available.September 2, 2013 at 8:47 pm #5513
Hope is not lost. I will try to dig in a bit, but it will be time consuming, as I am no expert in wordpress and Co. But if I find a way to have a Y-path to get out each posting into mail, I am done. I try to persuade the developer…
